Kokua Festival 2008

Once again the Kokua Festival didn't disappoint.

This year featured: Kokua regular Paula Fuga who Ashley swears is the Hawaiian reincarnation of Alicia Keys, Mason Jennings who is a new school version of Bob Dylan and special guests Dave Mathews and Tim Reynolds. Dave Mathews and Tim Reynolds were the highlight of the night, Tim Reynolds plays guitar like nobodies business and Dave was hilarious although incoherent at times. Ashley and I's favorite moment was when Jack Johnson dedicated his new song "Angel" to his wife and he transitioned into a cool version of OUR song "Better Together".

This was my 3rd Kokua Festival and I feel so lucky to have been able to see musicians like Ben Harper, Willie Nelson, Enrie Cruz Jr, Damian Marley,Matt Costa, Eddie Vedder, and now I can throw Dave Mathews in the mix, I feel so lucky to be able to have seen these artists live and in the Waikiki Shell no less. I think once I'm out of here my luck will have run out, so I have to have a lifetime of concerts while I'm still out here.

Matt Costa

Last year I was introduced to Matt Costa at the Kokua Music festival and of course I liked his music. I knew he was coming for a show at a small venue in China Town and I didn't think I could go for two reasons, I didn't think I had the money and two (and most importantly) Finals week which starts tomorrow was going to mean I had test everyday this week. (we don't have any kind of dead week here just last day of instruction (today) and BOOM! its finals tomorrow.

Anyways the miracle occurred Sunday night when my buddy Mathoni came over and invited me to go to the concert with him, what was I supposed to say no? are you kidding? Ashley was all for me going and luckily for me I didn't have anything going on Tuesday night. It was one of the best concerts I've been to in my life. I was standing about 15 feet away from the man and the place was pretty small. I'll tell you what if you ever get a chance to go to a Matt Costa concert do it because Matt will not let you down, the man is a performer and he sounded better live. Apart from that, he didn't really swear or say anything dirty his whole hour and a half long set. The guy who opened up for Matt Costa (Micah Wolf) was surprisingly talented as well. After the show Matt Costa just went outside and talked to everyone, he was really approachable and I got to shake his hand I only wish I had brought a camera.

To conclude this blog I think we ALL left with a little crush for Matt Costa. j/k (kinda)

I've been a huge FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS fan ever since I saw them on Conan O'brien about 3 years ago. In light of it being monday and Ashley's fisrt full work week for a while I wanted to spread some cheer. I think if anyone is having a bad day (especially if you're a dude) this song will cheer you up by simply pretending that your best friend is singing this song to you.

They finally did it!!! The built a Nordstroms here in Hawaii..... oh happy day... and although it took me two weeks to get there.... IT was well worth it...
I had Good Friday off from work, so I packed up the girls and we took off shopping the whole entire day!! we left at 11:00am and got home at around 9ish!! and usually I get grumpy when I over shop...but I loved every minute of it.... Thanks Alysha and Rebecca for the great day!!! unfortunately, now I am addicted now... and ready to go again!!!!

Easter Dress

Ashley had an all girls date on Good Friday while us man heathens had school. She shopped so hard her legs were sore to put together that adorible outfit. She was so shining so we had to go out and take have a photo shoot in celebration of Easter/Ashley's uncanny sense of style. Isn't she beautiful!

Tatoos

Some people say tatoos are an expression of art but seriously what were they really thinking? Have you ever looked at something you drew as a kid? In the moment it was so cool, now you look at it and think wow this sucks! I'm thinking if you want to get a tatoo you should just get the words I'm dumb so that a year later when you ask yourself why did I do this you can just look at it at it and go oh yeah....."me no talking no more!"

Caller #7

So there I was driving to my next Home Visit when what do I hear on the radio?!?! "call in now and the 7th caller will get 4 passes to the premiere of PENELOPE!" well, if you know me at all...then you will know that I have had an itch to see Penelope since they first start advertising it like a year ago! So I did what any sane Christina Ricci fan would do...I started calling my little heart out... and what did I hear on the other line you ask?!?!? "CONGRATULATIONS!!! You are the 7th caller!!! So, I realize that this may not seem like the coolest proze to you, but knowing that I am never win something on the radio ever again...I started screaming my little Head off!!!
So Brandon and I attended the Hawaii premiere of Penelope, I am pretty sure we were the only ones there over the age of 12, but I loved every minute of it!!! Two thumbs way up!!
